1. Who we are and what these terms cover
DR Power is the trading name used by DR Incorporated Ltd (company number 17525862), a company registered in England and Wales. In these terms, “DR Power”, “we”, “us” and “our” mean DR Incorporated Ltd.
These terms apply when you use a DR Power station to rent a portable power bank, keep it with you for temporary use and return it to a supported DR Power station. They also apply to the related payment, card-authorisation, return and customer-support processes.
They do not cover products or services supplied independently by a venue, your mobile network, your phone manufacturer, your bank or another third party. Those organisations remain responsible for their own products and services.
Before each rental, the station must display the tariff and the amount it will ask your card provider to authorise. The terms below should be read alongside that station-specific information. Where a station-specific price or instruction differs from an example in these terms, the clear information shown at the station before you authorise the rental will apply to that rental.
2. Important words used in these terms
- Power bank means the portable battery pack supplied from a DR Power station.
- Station means a DR Power dispensing and return unit at a participating venue.
- Rental means the period beginning when the station confirms that a power bank has been dispensed to you and ending when a supported station confirms its return.
- Tariff means the price and billing rules displayed for the particular station or venue.
- Card authorisation means the temporary approval or hold requested from your card provider before a power bank is dispensed. It is not, by itself, a completed payment.
- Non-return settlement means a capture from the card authorisation where the power bank remains out and the applicable tariff and payment rules permit settlement.
3. Who can rent a power bank
DR Power stations are unattended and self-service. There is no member of staff at the station to inspect identification or check a customer's age, and we do not currently operate an age-verification step as part of the normal rental process. You will not be asked to show ID at the station.
The person who starts the rental must read and understand the station tariff and these terms, have the legal capacity required to enter into the rental, and be authorised to use the card or payment method presented. The law treats contracts made by people under 18 differently in some circumstances; the fact that a station dispenses a power bank does not itself determine whether a contract with a young person is legally enforceable.
Where a power bank is intended for use by someone under 18, we recommend that a parent or legal guardian personally starts the rental using a payment method they are authorised to use, and remains responsible for the rental, payment, safe use and return. The station does not verify the age or relationship of the people using the power bank.
- Use a payment card or device that you are entitled to use. Do not use another person’s card without their authority.
- Make sure you can complete the return process and understand the tariff before authorising.
- Do not start a rental if you cannot accept the displayed rental price and authorisation amount.
- Do not use the station to obtain a power bank for resale, commercial redistribution or another unlawful purpose.
We may refuse or pause a rental where the payment authorisation is declined, the station is unavailable, a safety issue is identified, or we reasonably suspect misuse or fraud. We will not treat a declined authorisation as a successful rental.
4. When the rental contract starts
Your rental contract with DR Incorporated Ltd is formed when you approve the station’s displayed tariff and card authorisation, the payment provider confirms the required authorisation, and the station successfully dispenses the power bank.
The rental timer starts from the station’s confirmed dispense event recorded by the DR Power system. It does not start merely because you approach the station, tap a card, or receive a pending card authorisation. If the station does not dispense a power bank, contact support and do not assume a rental has begun.
The applicable tariff is recorded against the rental when it starts. Later price changes do not retrospectively change the tariff for a rental already in progress.
5. Stations, availability and supported returns
Stations are operated at selected venues and may be available only during certain hours. A venue being listed or displaying DR Power branding does not guarantee that a station is switched on, has a power bank available, or can accept a return at a particular moment.
Before starting, check that the station is showing an active rental option and that the payment amount is clear. Do not start a rental where the price, authorisation amount or return instructions are missing or unreadable.
A power bank must be returned to a supported DR Power return station. Do not assume that a station operated by another company, or a station that is not identified as a supported return point, can accept it. The return is complete only when the station or system confirms acceptance.
6. Prices, billing blocks and daily caps
Each station displays its applicable tariff before you approve a rental. Prices may vary by venue, station, tariff or promotion. Some venues may use a daily cap; others may use a tariff without a daily cap. You should rely on the complete tariff shown at the station before you authorise.
Standard tariff example
The current standard DR Power tariff is configured on the following basis, unless a station displays a different venue-specific tariff:
The initial standard rental block.
Charged for each additional block started.
Where displayed, applies per started 24-hour billing segment.
A temporary hold, not an additional rental fee.
Higher-priced and premium venues
Some venues use a higher-priced tariff. For example, the current configured Premium venue rate is:
The initial Premium rental block.
Charged for each additional block started.
Applies once across the whole rental, not per 24-hour period.
A temporary card hold, not an additional rental fee.
These standard and Premium figures are examples of configured tariffs, not a promise that every station uses one of them. DR Power may configure other venue-specific prices, billing intervals, caps and authorisation amounts. The complete tariff shown on the individual station immediately before you authorise is the tariff for your rental. Do not continue if it is missing, unclear or different from the amount you are willing to pay.
How time is calculated
Unless the station displays a different rule, the initial block covers the first 30 minutes and each additional started 30-minute block is charged at the displayed incremental rate. The rental duration is measured from the confirmed dispense time until the confirmed return time. A partial block may count as a started block once it begins.
How a daily cap works
Where a £10 daily cap is displayed, it applies to each started 24-hour billing segment, not to the entire rental regardless of how long you keep the power bank. For example, the standard £10 cap can allow up to £20 of rental charges across a 48-hour period. A Premium venue has no separate daily cap, but its £35.50 total rental cap applies once across the entire rental and does not reset after 24 hours.
There is no universal price for every venue. Always check the live station tariff. A venue-specific or uncapped tariff can be different from the standard example above.
Prices are shown in pounds sterling (£). Any applicable taxes will be reflected in the amount shown to you; we will not add an undisclosed fee after you have approved the rental.
7. Card authorisation: what the hold means
Before dispensing a power bank, the station may request a card authorisation for the amount displayed at that station. The standard configured authorisation is £15.00; the current configured Premium venue authorisation is £35.50, and the Premium tariff's maximum total rental charge is also £35.50. Other venue-specific amounts may apply. The station must show the actual amount before you approve it.
An authorisation is a temporary reservation of funds or spending capacity by your card provider. It is not the rental price and is not automatically an extra charge on top of your rental. Your banking app may show it as pending, reserved or held while the rental is open.
- When you return the power bank normally, DR Power calculates the rental charge under the tariff and captures the appropriate amount from the available authorisation.
- Any unused part of the authorisation is released through the payment provider. Your bank or card issuer controls when the pending hold disappears from your account.
- The authorisation has a limited validity period set by the payment provider and card scheme. It is not an extension of your rental and cannot be assumed to remain available indefinitely.
- We do not store your full card number or card security code in the DR Power rental system. Card details are handled by the payment provider and card terminal.
If your card provider declines the authorisation, the station should not dispense a power bank. If you see a pending hold but no power bank was dispensed, contact us promptly so the transaction can be checked and any unnecessary authorisation can be released or cancelled where possible.
8. Overdue rentals, lost power banks and non-return settlement
Please return the power bank as soon as you have finished using it. Keeping it for longer increases the rental charge under the tariff, and a power bank that is not returned prevents another customer from using it.
Overdue and lost status
- At 24 hours after confirmed dispense, a rental may be marked overdue for review.
- At 36 hours after that rental’s confirmed dispense time, the system marks the power bank as lost and replacement required if no confirmed return has been received.
These are operational thresholds measured separately for each rental. The 24-hour review flag is not itself a fee. The 36-hour lost status records that the power bank has not been returned within the permitted period; it does not create an additional charge on top of the tariff.
What may be captured if the power bank is not returned
Where non-return settlement is enabled for the tariff, DR Power may capture the displayed non-return settlement amount from the original card authorisation while that authorisation is still valid and has a positive amount available to capture. Under the standard tariff, that amount is £15.00; under the current configured Premium venue tariff, it is £35.50. Other venue-specific amounts may apply, and the station must display the applicable authorisation and settlement amount before you approve the rental.
Settlement may be attempted at or after the 36-hour lost threshold. It may also be attempted earlier where the rental charge has reached the amount authorised, or where the payment provider reports that the original authorisation is approaching expiry and the settlement rules allow capture. This is necessary because an expired card authorisation cannot be captured later.
The non-return settlement is not a second fee on top of the rental. It is a capture from the original authorisation, up to the amount you approved and the amount the payment provider still permits us to capture. For example, the standard tariff currently uses a £15.00 authorisation and the Premium example uses £35.50. We will not silently create a second card payment or capture more than the authorised amount.
The configured Premium tariff has no separate daily cap, but its total rental charge is capped at £35.50 for the entire rental. Other higher-priced venue tariffs may have no daily cap and may accrue beyond their original authorisation amount where a different total cap is not displayed. The original authorisation still limits what can be captured from that hold. We will not silently increase the authorisation or create a second payment to collect an excess amount; any separate collection would require a separately disclosed and authorised payment method or transaction.
If the power bank is returned after settlement
If a power bank is returned after a non-return settlement has been captured, we recalculate the rental charge using the applicable tariff and the actual return time. Any captured amount that exceeds the rental amount properly due, after accounting for refunds already made, is eligible for a refund to the original payment method.
If the authorisation has expired
If the authorisation has expired or there is no longer an amount available to capture, we cannot capture it after expiry. We will not create a new card charge without a separate, appropriately disclosed payment request and your required authorisation. The passage of time does not extend the original card hold.
9. Collecting and returning a power bank
At collection
- Read the station instructions and check the tariff, billing intervals, daily cap (if any) and card authorisation amount.
- Present a payment method that you are authorised to use and complete the authorisation.
- Wait for the station to confirm that a power bank has been dispensed before leaving.
- Check that you have received the power bank and that it is not visibly damaged.
At return
- Use a supported station and follow its return instructions.
- Insert or place the power bank only as directed by the station.
- Wait for a return confirmation. Do not assume that leaving a power bank beside or inside a station completes the return.
- Keep any return confirmation or transaction reference until the final payment has been resolved.
If the return slot is full, the station is offline, the bank is rejected or the return confirmation does not appear, do not abandon the power bank. Keep it safe and email support@drpower.uk. Record the station location, date, time and rental reference.
10. Looking after the power bank and using it safely
You must take reasonable care of the power bank while it is in your possession. Use it only for its intended purpose and follow the instructions printed on the device and supplied with it.
- Do not open, dismantle, puncture, crush, bend, modify or attempt to repair the power bank.
- Do not expose it to water, excessive heat, fire, direct flame or conditions outside the manufacturer’s operating guidance.
- Do not use a power bank that is swollen, cracked, unusually hot, leaking, smoking or otherwise visibly damaged. Stop using it and move away from it if it appears unsafe.
- Do not leave a charging power bank unattended in an unsafe place, cover it while charging, or place it where it may be crushed or exposed to liquids.
- Use suitable cables and compatible equipment. DR Power is not responsible for damage caused by incompatible, faulty or modified third-party devices, except where the law makes us responsible.
- Do not leave the power bank with another person unless you remain responsible for its safe use and timely return.
If a power bank appears unsafe, stop using it and report the issue as soon as possible. Do not return a smoking, burning or dangerously hot unit through a station; move away and contact the venue or emergency services where appropriate.
11. Lost, stolen, damaged or malfunctioning power banks
Tell us promptly if a power bank is lost, stolen, damaged, rejected by a return station or appears not to work. Provide the rental reference, station or venue, and approximate time. Do not send full payment card details.
You are responsible for taking reasonable care of the power bank while it is in your possession. If it is not returned, the non-return provisions in section 8 may apply. If it is returned damaged, we will review the circumstances and any available station or device records.
We will not impose an undisclosed automatic damage penalty. Any claim for damage caused by misuse or failure to take reasonable care must have a proper basis, be explained to you and remain subject to your statutory rights. We will not charge an amount that is arbitrary, unfair or disproportionate.
If the power bank fails through no fault of yours, or a station error prevents collection or return, contact us. We will investigate the station and rental records and correct any charge that should not have been made.
12. Payments, receipts and refunds
Rental payments are processed through the payment method and card terminal presented at the station. The payment provider may appear on your banking statement under its own payment descriptor. A card authorisation may appear separately from the final captured rental payment.
When a power bank is returned, the system calculates the rental amount using the tariff recorded for that rental. The payment provider is asked to capture the appropriate amount from the authorised funds. Authorisations are not counted as completed payments until the payment provider confirms a capture.
Where a refund is due, it will normally be sent to the original payment method. Your card issuer controls when a refund or release becomes visible in your account. The time taken can vary between banks and card schemes. If a refund is pending, delayed or rejected, contact us with the payment or rental reference so that we can investigate.
Keep your payment notification or receipt until the rental is closed and any refund or release has appeared. If the amount shown on your statement does not match the tariff or the return record, contact us before starting a payment dispute where possible; this does not restrict your right to speak to your bank or card provider.
13. Cancellation and your consumer rights
Your statutory rights are not removed or reduced by these terms. In particular, the Consumer Rights Act 2015 requires services to be performed with reasonable care and skill and protects you where a service does not meet the legal standard.
Depending on how and where a rental contract is made, statutory cancellation rights under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 may also apply. Where those regulations give you a cancellation right, we will honour it. If a service is lawfully started during a cancellation period at your express request, the statutory rules may require payment for the part supplied; a right to cancel can be lost on full performance only where the required legal conditions have been met.
If a station offers you the option to cancel a rental before the power bank is dispensed, follow the instructions shown. If you believe you have a statutory right to cancel or a refund is due, contact us and clearly state that you wish to cancel and provide the rental reference.
Nothing in these terms prevents you from exercising a right or remedy available under consumer law.
14. Availability, maintenance and service interruptions
We may temporarily disable a station, pause rentals, restrict returns to particular stations or carry out maintenance where needed for safety, security, software updates, payment-provider issues or equipment reliability. A venue may also close or restrict access independently of DR Power.
We will take reasonable steps to minimise disruption and to make return instructions available. If a failure prevents you from returning a power bank, keep it safe and contact support as soon as possible. We will review the event and will not treat a delay caused by a verified service fault as deliberate non-return.
We may update the service, station instructions and tariff for future rentals. A change will not retrospectively alter the tariff already recorded for a rental that has started.
15. Our responsibility and limits of liability
We are responsible for providing our rental service with reasonable care and skill and for meeting the obligations that apply to us by law. If we fail to do so, you may have rights to require repeat performance, a price reduction, a refund or another remedy depending on the circumstances.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any consumer rights and remedies that cannot lawfully be excluded or restricted.
We are not responsible for loss caused solely by circumstances outside our reasonable control, such as a widespread telecommunications outage, card issuer outage, extreme event or venue closure, provided that this does not remove any legal duty or remedy that still applies. We will take reasonable steps to limit the impact and help you complete or close a rental.
You remain responsible for damage or loss caused by your deliberate misuse, unauthorised modification or failure to take reasonable care, to the extent permitted by law. We will not hold you responsible for ordinary wear and tear, a fault inherent in the power bank, or a failure caused by our own breach.
16. Questions, payment queries and complaints
If something goes wrong, email DR Power at support@drpower.uk. Please provide the rental reference, station or venue name, date and approximate time, and a short description of the problem.
For payment questions, tell us the amount and transaction date and, if available, the last four digits of the payment card. Never send your full card number, PIN, card security code or online banking password.
We will review the rental record, station events and payment-provider status before responding. If you remain unhappy, you can ask us to review the complaint. You may also contact your card provider about a card payment, without giving up any rights you have against us.
17. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms to reflect changes in the service, technology, pricing arrangements or legal requirements. The current version and its last-updated date will be published on this page.
Changes will not retrospectively alter a rental contract that has already started. If a change materially affects a rental you are about to begin, the updated terms will be made available before you authorise that rental.
18. Applicable law
These terms and any dispute arising from a DR Power rental are governed by the law of England and Wales, subject to any mandatory consumer-protection rules that give you the right to rely on the law or courts of another part of the United Kingdom where you live.
If any part of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining terms will continue to apply so far as the law permits. An unfair consumer term is not binding on you merely because it appears on this page.
